MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF STAINLESS STEEL AISI 304, AISI 316, H17

An important factor affecting corrosion resistance is the smoothness and cleanliness of the surface. Even minor scratches or surface damage can become the origins of corrosion. The first sign of general steel corrosion is usually the dulling of its surface. It is recommended to quickly remove any developing deposits and damage.

Reasons for changes in the surface appearance may include:

using a steel grade in a more aggressive environment than anticipated,
contamination of the stainless steel surface with iron particles during transport and due to the use of improper tools or abrasives during cleaning and operation,
operational contamination or damage.
Maintenance and operation rules:

use cleaning and maintenance agents and tools intended for stainless steel,
when cleaning stainless steel products, it is recommended to perform a cleaning test in an inconspicuous place to check the extent to which the cleaning technique, tools, and agents used affect the final surface appearance,
in places exposed to intense moisture and water, avoid the risk of galvanic corrosion (between stainless steel and carbon steel elements), e.g., by ensuring proper electrical insulation,
protect stainless steel during transport and assembly from any contact with carbon steel, use clean, specialized tools intended only for stainless steel,
use stainless steel brushes (for heavy soiling) or specialized non-woven fabric for cleaning. Be careful of scratches and changes in surface texture,
do not use balls previously used for cleaning carbon steel for pneumatic abrasive blasting,
never use hydrochloric acid to remove cement mortar deposits; the mortar must be rinsed off with clean, cold water before hardening.
EXAMPLES OF METHODS FOR REMOVING COMMON DIRT AND DISCOLORATION ON STAINLESS STEEL SURFACES

Fingerprints: Wash with spirit or thinner. After washing, rinse with cold water and wipe dry.
Oils, fats, greases: Wash with organic solvents, then with warm water and soap or mild detergent. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
More resistant stains and temperature tarnish: Wash with a mild abrasive detergent, rubbing in the direction of the ground surface texture. Rinse with clean cold water and wipe dry.
Severe discoloration: Clean with a slightly abrasive sponge in the direction of the visible surface texture. Rinse with clean cold water and then wipe dry.
Rust traces: As a result of external factors (e.g., contact with iron filings), rust deposits may appear on the stainless steel surface. In this case, moisten the surface with an oxalic acid solution and leave for about 15-20 minutes, then wash with a mild detergent. Rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
Paints: Wash the dirty surface with paint thinner, then rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
Scratches on the surface: Gently sand with non-woven fabric in the direction of the ground surface texture (using iron-free material), then wash with a mild detergent, rinse with clean water, and wipe dry.
NOTE – Do not use cleaning agents containing chlorine, salt, acids, or bleaches to clean stainless steel products. Even a small amount of chlorine in cleaning agents can cause permanent damage to the chromium oxide coating responsible for corrosion resistance, leading to corrosion. Do not use powders or other abrasive agents, silver cleaners, wire wool, or sharp cleaners.

WARRANTY CONDITIONS FOR GALVANIZED STEEL, POWDER-COATED STEEL, AND H17 POWDER-COATED STEEL

The manufacturer provides a 24-month warranty for its products, provided that the product is used in accordance with its intended purpose and that the specified maintenance conditions and operational recommendations are followed. The warranty is granted on the condition that the products are operated in normal environmental conditions without contact with aggressive substances.

The warranty does not cover products exposed to external factors such as fire, water, salts, acids, organic solvents containing esters, alcohols, aromatics, glycol ester, or chlorinated hydrocarbons. Other aggressive chemicals, such as cement, lime, abrasives, or cleaning agents, that cause material loss or scratches are also excluded.

The warranty does not cover mechanical damage, natural wear and tear, and product use inconsistent with its intended purpose. The warranty does not cover painted elements with defects that do not exceed 5% of the surface.

The warranty does not cover elements damaged due to abnormal weather conditions (temperature above 50°C and below -30°C on the painted surface), natural disasters, and accidents.

The occurrence of light gray and dark gray areas, unevenness of the external surface, and so-called "white rust" (resulting from the natural oxidation of zinc) is a natural phenomenon characteristic of this type of anti-corrosion protection and does not constitute grounds for complaint.

Unevenness of the paint coating may occur on welded and galvanized elements due to the uneven structure of the applied zinc coating. When applying a paint coating to various materials (carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum), significant differences in shades may occur for yellow and orange colors.

If protective film is used on elements, this film should be removed on the day of product delivery; otherwise, the film may vulcanize and cause irremovable stains.

Maintenance of galvanized and powder-coated carbon steel: the surface must be periodically washed with clean tap water with a small amount of kitchen detergents.

WOOD WARRANTY CONDITIONS

The manufacturer provides a 24-month warranty for its products, provided that the customer adheres to the specified product maintenance conditions and operational recommendations.

The warranty does not cover mechanical damage, natural wear and tear, and product use inconsistent with its intended purpose, seals, and other consumable parts. The warranty does not cover wood drying and warping, which is a natural effect of humidity changes, or wood color stability.

WOOD MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION

Wood recommended by the manufacturer for applications:

internal: impregnated and oiled.
external: impregnated and oiled with pigment.
external: impregnated with HK Lasur or varnished.
An important factor affecting the resistance of oiled, varnished, and lacquered wood is the smoothness and cleanliness of the surface. Minor scratches or surface damage can affect the hygroscopic changes in the wood structure. Wood durability largely depends on adherence to basic usage and care rules.

Recommended dry cleaning methods only:

remove small impurities such as dust, sand, and leaves with soft-bristled brushes.
remove water from the surface with a window squeegee.
wipe the surface only with a dry cloth, preferably with microfibers.
Use special protective agents to care for oiled, varnished, or lacquered wood.

Perform wood care activities at regular intervals of 6 months. This prevents the need for major renovations. Failure to control care will result in graying and even scratches due to weather conditions. A range of products from reputable companies is available for wood care, depending on its finish.

Maintenance and operation rules:

care oil – a natural or pigmented oil for oiled wood. Used as a refreshing and care product when wood becomes dull and gray. Facilitates care and increases wood resistance to graying and soiling, mainly for indoor use. It is recommended to apply and polish twice at 4-hour intervals.
oil with enhanced UV protection – a colorless oil with increased protection against wood graying caused by very strong and long-lasting daily sunlight. It is recommended to apply and polish twice at four-hour intervals.
pigmented oil – an oil with a dye content intended for a specific wood species. Characterized by an increased amount of bioxides and antioxidants that protect wood from moss, algae, rot, and insects. Mainly used for products in close contact with greenery. It is recommended to apply and polish twice at four-hour intervals.
floor care liquid – general cleaning – used for routine care of soiled oiled, varnished, or lacquered wood. A special cleaning liquid with added wax that creates a renewable protective coating on the wood. It is recommended to exclude the product from use for two hours after washing.
care paste or cream – an efficient agent for maintaining and protecting oiled or lacquered wood. It refreshes and provides effective surface protection and enhances the beauty of the grain. It is recommended to apply the paste or cream twice at four-hour intervals. For outdoor and indoor use at six-month intervals.
intensive cleaner – used for thorough cleaning of oiled wood. Removes various types of dirt: grease, mold. After washing with an intensive cleaner, impregnate domestic wood twice and exotic wood once at two-hour intervals, and apply two layers of oil with the original purpose at four-hour intervals.
repair oils, varnishes, lacquers – intended for specific types of finishes for spot repairs as a care, refreshing, and, above all, protective agent. It is recommended to remove any damage immediately.
RENOVATION In case of long-term use and the need for wood renovation, follow the procedures consistent with its original manufacturing technology. Use removers to remove oiled coatings and 360–400 grit sandpaper for varnished and lacquered coatings until raw material is obtained. In any technology, it is best to impregnate the wood once or twice at two-hour intervals and re-oil or apply lacquer twice at four-hour intervals, according to the required purpose. Follow the manufacturer's drying time requirements for varnish and paint. All work should be carried out at a temperature of at least 18–20°C.
